Children and the Internet

It is the concern of many parents and educators that a negative relationship can be established between the children and the Internet.

On the one hand comprise up the internet advantages in information issues, fun and learning.

On the other, there are the dangers of being like TV or (in limit) the world around us, one ALL communication vehicle – the good and the bad …

Protecting the children from adult content without preventing you access to all that fantastic exist on the Internet?

We will not here to explain what the Internet is, as you browse it and a site designed for children, but we will refer more good things of this medium:
– The ease of finding what is sought (search engines and search by topics);
– Happy integration of text, animation and image, which motivates and captivates for the transmission of information;
– The advantage of not having time limit: “never closes”;
– Being, despite the precautions, a means to relate to others.

But there are downsides, besides the “most dangerous” we have already mentioned:
– The information is not always correct (and is often incomplete);
– For spelling errors that will “passing” for the correction of concern is not always present;
– Can “indulge” and cause relationship problems and also physical order (vision, posture, etc.);
– A source of charges (even though the trend is to decrease, but the content of the payable is increasing).

Now, a reflection.

Outside the familiar environment (home), children often browse in group, ie they are with friends or with your best friend in front of the screen to play, to communicate, to play.

To those who criticize the Internet as something that promotes isolation, it is an easy attitude to observe in children when surfing at school or in public places.

However, we admit that as we advance in age, it is actually a solitary action.

How to protect children from browsing undesirable websites?

child-internetAs with the TV or the press, ban is not always the solution. We argue that the clarification and dialogue turn out to be more constructive.

However, when these paths are not viable, it is important that parents and educators know that they can “stop” or “filter” some sites, based on programs that perform this function.

These systems block access when the “make run” a list of words or unwanted images, preventing access to the site.

These lists can be customized in some cases. Additionally can also restrict access to “x” times a day / time and space data allow supervision (and recording) access and actions.

We will not refer here to protect these sites because there are new with great frequency and may downgrade our list.

Normally, the “secure” sites make use of adult whenever necessary and no risk to the placement of sensitive or inappropriate materials.

In the universe of the net in English are already certified sites and secured for children.
